Picket

Picket fences are mostly used decoratively for domestic boundaries, distinguished by their evenly spaced vertical boards and are attached to horizontal rails.
Picket fences are particularly popular in the older suburbs, where the style has been used since Australia’s colonial days and remains popular today. They are a decorative way to contain pets and children without blocking views, and are used around both front and back yards. Traditionally picket fences are made out of wood and painted with heritage colours but now picket fences are also widely available in powder coated steel, aluminium and PVC material.
A picket fence is generally 90 to 120 cm tall. It is constructed using a horizontal top rail and bottom rail and are attached to fence posts. Evenly spaced boards are affixed vertically to the rails. What truly distinguishes a picket fence is the top, which is shaped and most commonly referred to as a Windsor picket fence.
A picket fence has iconic status in Australia symbolising the ideal family home, with children, pets, and peaceful living. A picket fence brings out the the charm and beauty for any heritage style home keeping in with the period of the home.
